By the end of 2016 many Brazilian cities will receive investments and go through infrastructure changes for the World Cup and the Olympic and Paralympic Games. Tens of billions of dollars will be spent, and most of this money will be public.
In order to avoid the repetition of overspending on infrastructure works that happened during the 2007 Pan American Games, the population needs to demand and enforce.
There will only be transparency in such investments if individuals, civil society organizations, companies and unions demand it. And infrastructure works will only follow social and economic sustainability patterns with full participation of all stakeholders.
